Saturn in the 5th house ~ learning life's lessons in the house of children.

Today's cuppa: Lime and elderflower tea

I'm researching for a book I wish to write about the impact of having the planet Saturn in the 5th house.

In astrology, the 12 houses are considered to be mansions of the soul. The planet which is transiting through it at the time of your birth, brings energy or lessons with it.

Saturn is considered to be Father Time, or some say, the Lord of Karma. However you choose to look at it, this planet certainly brings *interesting* learning opportunities. The fifth house represents children, creativity and love affairs.

My focus, for the book, is specifically on children.

Having Saturn in this house can manifest in many ways. Ancient astrologers used to say that if a woman had Saturn in this house, it meant she couldn't have children. Later on they said that if she did have children, she'd be a bad mother (ouch!!). I know in my life it manifests by finding it REALLY hard to sit down and 'play dolls'!! (LOL)

I have Saturn in my 5th house ~ and am interested in how it plays out in other women's lives. My grandmother's saturn in the 5th manifested with three children dying in infancy (during the war years).

Clearly my life's work is around children, and it plays out not only in the passion I have for my own children being raised optimally, but also through creating The Mother magazine.

Saturn in the 5th house can manifest in so many ways, such as infertility (usually it has psychological, rather than physical, reasons), repeated miscarriages, stillbirth, death of a child/children in infancy....generally, 'difficulties' around children. I want to show that it isn't always like this, and can manifest in other ways too.

Lest it sound all doom and gloom, it needn't be....and that is the point I wish to make in my book... how we can take these lessons and *prune* our essential self to blossom fully, rather than be crushed and heartbroken.

I believe Saturn is our life coach....he's here to test our spiritual muscles, so to speak. Many people who dabble in astrology fear Saturn. It's a shame, and I certainly believe that the more you fear something, the more painful a hold it has on you. My goal in writing this book is to show how we can genuinely befriend Saturn and use this natal placement to our advantage and JOY.

If you have Saturn in the 5th and would be happy to contribute your experiences, please do contact me via The Mother website. If you suspect you might have it there, but are not sure, you can google Astrodienst and get a free chart done. You'll need an accurate time of birth.
Or I can look into it for you.

Please be assured all correspondence is strictly confidential, and if you do decide to be a 'case study' in the book, names will be changed to protect privacy.

Best wishes, Veronika

It sounds a very exciting idea.An excellent book is 'SATURN,A New Look at an Old Devil'by Liz Greene, you may already have read it. I have had mine for over 20 years so it may not be still in print.(Unfortunately I can't help. I have the moon in my 5th and get pregnant and give birth very easily-it would be interesting to know if other women with the moon in that position have similar experiences)

A fascinating idea indeed.. My 5th house Moon (which is Exactly conjunct son's Sun) is sandwiched between Saturn on one hand and Jupiter on the other. I conceived easily, gave birth prematurely and almost lost my child when he was a few weeks old. I have felt the alternating influence of Saturn and Jupiter ever since.. hope this helps

Hi, I realize this research has been going on for awhile,it's now 2008.

In reflecting back over the years having saturn in the 5th---I have never had children, I always thought later, there will be time. In my twenties I had quite a few abortions. Now in my 40's I am unable to conceive.
Another 5th house concern has been a discipline with creativity.
I chose a very patriarchal means for what I consider a softer intuitive expression to the fine arts and painting.
I worked in Academia for years and have recently reckoned with my own courage and discipline as an educator and painter in finding softer way's of service. Sun and Marsin the 6th house.

Hi--not sure if you are still gathering info on Saturn in the 5th. I have it there (along with my North Node) and am having difficulty conceiving. (I did conceive at age 15, but had an abortion.)
I also believe this aspect challenges me to physically express my creative ideas: I have plenty of them, and have a talent for the fine arts, but it's like pulling teeth for me to sit down and be disciplined enough to create on any regular basis. In other areas of life I am quick to complete projects and follow through.
I also come across as authoritative, but have other aspects that feed into that.

I have Saturn in the 5th. This resonates with me. I have never been pregnant and have never had an overwhelming desire to be a mother. Also I am very creative but I am not confident enough to believe I can make a living solely on my creative impulses. Love affairs are difficult and seem to end up stifling my self-expression.

I have saturn in 5th house and have 1 son from first marriage when I was 22 years old. I've had many abortions, I'm ashame to admit and I've had bad experiences with all birth control. I've had many love affairs and have always been an artist. My male partners too have stifled my self expression as Snautrag mentions above, this is probably why I've had so many. At the age of 50 I'm finally formally getting a fine art degree from a reputable University. My Saturn is in Sagittarius and so is my son's sun sign. He's turn out to be a wonderful and successful young man. I love children and can't wait to have grandchildren.

I have my Draconic Saturn in my Tropical fifth, and am constantly amazed at the information available by comparing the two charts and using them together to get a more complete picture of oneself.

I was able to have two pregnancies and two healthy children as a result, but the pregnancies were very high risk, and the two c-sections were both botched with terrible health problems for me. I had a total of 9 abdominal surgeries to correct all the issues.

I have only had one lover, my husband of 33 years, and one emotional love affair that changed my life in my late 40's. I am not sexually repressed within my marriage, but I certainly put up blocks to anyone else!

I am also am a musician and artist by profession. So Saturn shows where you better take things seriously or the more negative traits can surface. Saturn in the fifth has periodically played out as debilitating depression and lack of creativity, but it also surfaces as taking my creativity seriously and learning how to rekindle and resurrect it with time. (another Saturn trait!)

I also had the perseverance to create health and well-being after all the trauma.

hello..i also have saturn in 5th house, well aspected: trine with ascendant, sextil with mercur and descendant; 5-the house is the most populated house..there is saturn, uranus, and neptun (all in sagittarius, but 5th cusp in scorpio)..no conjunction..spearated by 7-8 degrees.
i had a childhood with extremely events..good and bad (pluto conjunct venus in 4th house)..i don`t know if this is the reason why i don`t want children, but i really don`t feel this need, althought the kids are instantly captivated by me, and i am really close to them..i'm inventig games, words, juggling whith things...but i don`t want my kids. is about my convinction that life is much painfull than hapiness..and i would love too much that person, knowing me the primar cause of his suffer. but i hope i could adopt some kids...would be something i want to.

Hello, this comment is for Saturn in the 5th house. I hope this helps and maybe some of you can give me some insight about Saturn in 5th house, in Leo. When it comes to the area of children... I am the eldest of a very large family. I have cared for and raised them my whole life and still do. In doing so, I have no intentions of having children of my own. Not that I don't love them... cuz I adore them.. but I am all mothered out. In my college years I use to teach in a Montessori school and loved my job. I get along with children beautifully. Their is nothing lacking in my communicating with children. I just care not to spend the other 2/3 of my life raising them. Now when it comes to creativity... I am incredibly artistic. I can draw and sketch portraits, fashion designing, belly dancing, international latin dancer... many areas of art.. but many obstacles in life have prevented my from ever becoming a scholar in just one area.. My life is full of responsibilities that keep me from ever chasing my artistic endeavors ... my 5th house in leo have saturn conjunct Rahu (north node)... hope that helped..
best regards, Sayuri

I will forward this page to her and hope she wants to contribute her story.

I have Saturn in my 5th and I'm in my late 30s and I've never had children. I don't want to, because my family is so messed up, the last thing I'd want is to multiply their kind.

I believe I have saturn in the fifth or sandwiched between fifth and the sixth house. The result is trying not to have children, but having them anyway. Finding that I am not really good with kids and experiencing a lot of stress being around them including two premature births and one cesaerean, four abortions. I love my children but feel restricted by them as a sagittarius who prefers natural movement. I also found myself having a miserable experience teaching middle schoolers in my youth.
